Bangkok Airport November 30 – Still Closed With Some Flights From UTapao Airport

November 30: Bangkok Airport remains closed, although there is a trickle of information about flights leaving from UTapao Airport, which is located 190 kms from Bangkok

Bangkok Airport remains closed, and looks like it will remain so for at least another couple of days.

There is now an official tourist helpline - call 1672 - for those tourists stranded in Thailand. Apparently all stranded tourists are meant to get 2000 Baht per day as compensation for their inconvenience, although details are sketchy about how this will be allocated. More info at The Nation

THAI Airways has laid on several flights to depart from Thailand to Japan and several European destinations from UTapao Airport, which is a military airport located 190 kilometres south east of Bangkok.

However, passengers MUST make sure they have contacted THAI Airways and have confirmed a place on one of the flights BEFORE they go to the airport. They cannot expect to turn up and get on the planes. This story on The Nation explains more, although it's not clear if seats on these THAI flights are open to anyone or only existing THAI passengers.

From this AFP report by Newley Purnell, UTapao Airport is very chaotic and overwhelmed by the amount of people trying to get onto a flight. Therefore it makes sense to secure a place on a flight before going there.
