If your laptop is grinding its gears during your travels, invest in some more RAM memory to make it work a lot faster. Here's a recommendation of where to buy RAM in Bangkok
A quick geek tip - if you are travelling with a laptop and find yourself in need of getting more RAM memory whilst in Bangkok, I recommend MemoryToday. They are a little shop on the 3rd floor of the Fortune Town IT Mall. Fortune Town is my favourite IT place in Bangkok - just take the MRT subway to Phra Ram 9 station, and the mall is directly outside the exit. Walk into the mall, and turn right following the corridor along until you get to the escalators a couple of hundred yards along. Very easy to get to, and much there's less noise/hassle/rip off merchants than the more famous Pantip Plaza IT mall.
I've shopped at MemoryToday twice and been impressed both times with their level of service. Several of the guys there speak fluent English, which is a real help, and they are very friendly, knowledgable and non-hard sell. Last time I was there they recommended a brand which was actually cheaper than the one I had in mind. They'll install new memory for free straight into your laptop if you bring it with you and give you a 1 year guarantee with it - simply bring it back if you have a problem.
RAM memory prices are very low at the moment, and while I can't say if these guys offer better prices than Singapore or Hong Kong - unlikely, given Thailand's tariff on electronic goods - I don't think you will be paying wildly over the odds if you buy RAM in Thailand. It depends if you have a trip to Singa or HK lined up in the near future I guess.
MemoryToday also have a nifty website - memorytoday.com - which is in Thai and English. If you have a complex query, click the About Us link and then email one of the staff direct - I haven't tried it myself but I bet they'll respond pretty fast. Otherwise, just pay them a visit. If you're into IT stuff, nosing round a Thai IT mall like Fortune Town can be quite good fun even if you're not buying. Just watch out for all the bootleg software and pirate DVDs if you don't want to endanger your computer.
