Want to get rid of your second hand books in Bangkok so you can travel light? Donate them to prisoners in Bangkok jails through The Dubliner pub.
If you’re looking to get rid of your used books in Bangkok, take them to The Dubliner pub on Sukhumvit – they are collecting used books on an ongoing basis to donate to prisoners in Bangkok jails. Nothing is refused, apparently, so they’ll even take The Da Vinci Code. If you’re feeling super thrifty, you could pay a visit to Dasa Secondhand Bookshop first, which is about 10 minutes walk from the Dubliner, and see if they want to buy any of your books. The rest you can take to the pub afterwards.
Dasa is the cheapest second hand bookshop I’ve found in Bangkok, much cheaper than the rip-off prices charged by booksellers around Khao San Road. Both the Dubliner and Dasa are very near the Phrom Phong BTS too, so they’re not difficult to get to.
I wrote more about my favourite Bangkok Bookshops for both new and used books a while ago; and there’s also info on visiting prisoners in the Bangkok Hilton and the recently published book about the only Western prisoner to escape from the Bangkok Hilton.
