Salsa is starting to catch on in Bangkok and there are quite a few venues where you can strut your stuff or learn some new moves. Whether you are a resident of the City of Angels or just passing though it's a great way to make friends and even get a little exercise. I've been on a quest to learn some moves over the past couple of months and have tried out a couple of different places. It's been a great way to meet new people and learn something new.

If you're looking for more structured classes you may want to check out Salsa Hacha Dance Studio in Silom. The instructors are extremely professional and talented. All of them speak fantastic English and have a passion for dance. They even offer free classes on Wednesdays and Sundays for beginners. It's nice to be able to check it out before having to sign up for a class and the venue itself is very well appointed with two studios and a restaurant-cum-club on the first floor. Check out their website for an up-to-date class schedule and events that may are on in Bangkok.

La Rueda Latin Dance Club in Sukhumvit Soi 18 is a great place to meet people and dance. They offer classes everynight for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students from 7-10pm. The great thing is that after the last class finishes things seamlessly merge into a dance club. All the classes are free but there is a one drink minimum which might actually help loosen you up. If your top priority is meeting people this is definitely the place to go. The teachers (many of them from Salsa Hacha) are extremely talented and the classes very lively. It's a fantastic way for travelers and residents alike to meet new people and dance.

If salsa is not your thing La Rueda and Salsa Hacha offer many different types of dance classes from Zouk (offered at La Rueda on Tuesday with the enigmatic Erin and the sexy Stephanie) to Tengo. Check out their websites for more details.

There are quite a few places to try out your moves in Bangkok. Check out this calendar with listings for every night of the week.
