Thailand is in mourning today for Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, with a huge funeral ceremony in Bangkok to mark her final passing. The centrepiece of the ceremony is the funeral temple specially constructed to mark the Princess's cremation

Funeral Temple of Princess Galyani Vadhana
The ceremonies for the Princess last all day and into the evening, and the full mourning period runs from 13th to 19th November. After the mourning is over, the funeral temple, temporarily constructed at Sanam Luang by the Grand Palace after months of work by hundreds of craftsmen, will be demolished. Onlookers can only see the temple from the pavement that runs around the oval parade ground, as it is shut to the public. You can read more about the funeral ceremony and see more photos by looking on Google News
Hundreds of Thais have been flocking daily to see the Princess's temple and the funeral pavilion which stretches out around it - despite the obvious reverence that surrounds the Princess's death, the Thais are also very pragmatic about death, and there was something of a carnival atmosphere around Sanam Luang when I visited a few days ago. There was one guy doing a roaring trade in taking digital photos of passersby with the temple in the background, and then printing out the photo instantly on his small photo printers - a true entrepeneur.
