If you’re counting your costs while travelling, AirAsia’s new route from Bangkok to Johor Bahru provides the cheapest way of getting from Bangkok to Singapore. If you can put up with the hour long bus journey from Johor Bahru to Singapore from the airport, then you should be able to save some cash, given Johor Bahru flights are currently free to book – except, of course, for taxes and fuel surcharges.
There is plenty of info about how to get to and from Johor Bahru and Singapore – this site does a good job of explaining the options and Wikitravel also has a good rundown.
Bangkok to Singapore is a route that has heavy competition – besides AirAsia, Tiger Airways and Jetstar also have numerous daily flights. It’s worth checking SkyScanner.net to see if they have any cheap offers and also Kayak.com is worth a look in case one of the traditional airlines has a bargain – especially useful if you have more than 15kg of luggage, as the budget airlines will charge you for the excess.
