Filming for the new Batman movie is taking place on location in Hong Kong this weekend - and I'm hoping I'll get to see some of the action while I'm there visiting friends
I'm off to Hong Kong this weekend in search of cheap camera equipment and catching up with friends. By happy coincidence, I've also discovered the new Batman movie is being filmed there at the same time. It's the most high profile movie to be shot in Hong Kong for years, and from the warnings about traffic disruption and noise currently circulating in the city, it sounds like they will be pulling out all the stops to utilise Hong Kong's spectacular skyline.

Apparently the main filming will be taking place around the International Finance Center and inside Hong Kong's Penisular Hotel, which is the last word in colonial luxury. It's the obvious place for Bruce Wayne to stay. (For those of us that can't afford to stay there, you can still indulge in their legendary High Tea to the accompaniment of a string quartet without breaking the bank).
I am somewhat disappointed that one iconic Hong Kong location appears to be missing from the filming schedule - the round-windowed Jardines Bank, universally known amongst the Chinese as "The House Of 1000 Arseholes". Still, I'm going to go and have a nose around the film's locations and see if there is anything interesting going on.
As you can probably guess, I'm a big Batman fan. Batman Begins was easily the best of the Batman films, capturing the gothic essence of Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns, Frank Miller's groundbreaking graphic novels that transformed Batman from camp crusader into a grim portrait of twisted psychology. As director Christopher Nolan is back in charge and Christian Bale has reprised his role as Batman, I'm hoping this next installment will have the same level of intelligence and edge to it as its predecessor.
Coincidentally, Christian Bale was recently filming in Thailand on Warner Herzog's movie of Rescue Dawn. They were shooting a lot of jungle scenes around Chiang Mai, according to the Chiang Mai Mail.
