Asia’s biggest budget carrier AirAsia have launched a new direct route from Bangkok to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, making Indo wide open for backpackers who want to explore its thousands of islands

AirAsia are expanding their budget flight network across Asia again with a new direct route between Bangkok and Jakarta. A return ticket is currently going for around $100 US including all taxes with their promotional fares, which beats pretty much every other airline out there. (See Kayak for a real time comparison of other airlines prices).

This makes it really cheap for backpackers to skip straight down to Indonesia and explore Java – including Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist monument – and head to Bali, either overland (as it’s relatively easy to travel the length of Java and then get a quick ferry crossing to Bali) or by another cheap AirAsia flight from Jakarta to Bali, and from there onto Komodo, Lombok, Flores…

Currently you can get an indirect flight from Bangkok to Bali with AirAsia via Kuala Lumpur, with the only direct flight being Thai Airways – see Kayak again for the best prices. It wouldn’t be a surprise if AirAsia targets Bali for its next direct flight route.
