North Korea remains a truly enigmatic destination for a foreigner to visit, and there are some fascinating accounts and photographs of time spent in the Hermit Kingdom
I’ve written before about my interest in North Korea and some of the books that have been inspired by visits to one of the most mysterious places on Earth. I recently discovered A Year In Pyongyang, which is the entire text of Andrew Holloway’s book about his time in North Korea working as a translator. (The book has been made freely available online). I’ve read the first couple of chapters and found it very interesting – Holloway writes well and keeps to the point too. It’s a unique perspective to have as someone living within the North Korea’s capital city for a year – I’ve avoided the temptation so far to skip to the end to check if he went mad by the end of his 12 months there.
There have also been some great photo collections from North Korea discovered online recently- Kottke pointed to this collection by Philippe Chancel and I found another fascinating collection at Archibase via Reddit.
