The debate over the New Wonders Of The World still rages, but Egypt possesses the only still remaining original Ancient Wonder Of The World – the Pyramids of Giza
I’ve been keeping an eye on the New Seven Wonders Of The World website and the current Wonders that have been nominated for the voting process. There’s another 150 days to get your vote in, and it’s a fascinating way to take a fresh look at the world and the amazing things in it. The ancient city of Petra in Jordan definitely has my vote as one of the new Wonders – I loved it so much I’ve been there twice. Asia has its fair share of nominated wonders – Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the Great Wall in China and Kiyomizu Temple in Japan.
Egyptian authorities are reportedly miffed at the inclusion of the Pyramids of Giza in the New Wonders list, because it’s the only Ancient Wonder of the World that still exists. (See Wikipedia for the full list). Sadly, even though there are plenty of cheap holidays to Egypt, (if you live in Europe), I still haven’t seen the Pyramids for myself – I’ve been on diving holidays in Egypt several times, but they’re all based around the Sinai peninsula, which is the other side of the country – and Egypt is a big place. Maybe next time I go back home to England to see friends and family I’ll have to get a last minute holiday to Egypt and finally get to experience the Pyramids for myself.
