Somewhere in this photo is the Dalai Llama himself - a prize for the first person to spot him. This picture was taken in August 2002 in Leh, the capital of Ladakh in northern India, from the vantage point of a nearby restaurant's rooftop. We had absolutely no idea he was going to even be in Leh when we first go there. It was like watching the arrival of a spiritual rock star. Quite incredible to accidentally witness first hand the reverence in which the Dalai Llama is held.
