Hello Kitty and Milo are two of Japan’s most ubiquitious cartoon icons, plastered over every item of clothing you can imagine. It’s not likely that two such monsters of cute would appear side by side on any official merchandise, but the wily fashion student entrepeneurs at Bangkok’s Suam Lum Night Bazaar don’t let that hold them back. Behold the Bangkok Hello Kitty and Mashup tshirt, in fetching pink (what else?). Wander round the bazaar (next to Lumphini MRT station) and you’ll find numerous other remixes of pop culture icons, like MFC, Chairman Mao’s retake of the Colonel’s finger-lickin’ recipe. The true masterpiece of Bangkok mashup art is still, for my money, the Hello Kitty / Sin City handbag – you’ve got to see it to believe it!
