Split Rock, New Zealand – Photo Friday
by Chris Mitchell on December 21, 2007
Every Friday, a new photo of amazing Asian people and places here on Travelhappy. Except this week’s pic is from New Zealand, so we’ll have to change that to amazing AustralAsian people and places…
Back in 2003 I spent a couple of weeks racing around New Zealand on the Kiwi Experience bus. (It was reading
Dave’s post about his current New Zealand exploits that made me go and dig out my own photos). NZ is a staggeringly beautiful place, but I never quite warmed to it because I found it to be too similar to England – a pastoral, sleepy, 1950s England, but England all the same. It’s no wonder so many British retire there. Anyway, the scenery cannot be argued with and one of the highlights of my time there was a day spent walking in the Abel Tasman Park on the South Island, which begins with a boat trip past this iconic boulder known as Split Rock. I can’t quite believe the colours of the sky – the photo is wholly untouched from when I took it.
