Thailand’s spas are famous for their tranquil luxury at a price that won’t ruin your holiday. Many celebrities come to Thailand for spa treatments, and Travelhappy can reveal Angelina Jolie’s Thailand spa of choice…

Thailand has hundreds of spas to choose from, and these days they range from the breathtakingly expensive to the bargain priced. As with everything, the amount of money you pay doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of experience you get – the places where you tend to have the best time are those where the owners and staff of the business really care about your wellbeing, even if their surroundings are quite humble.

Angelina Jolie opted for the modest but stunningly beautiful Sukantara spa, hidden away in the hills of Chiang Mai. While the likes of David Beckham and Kate Moss head for self-consciously super luxury spas in Thailand such as Chiva Som in Hua Hin, Angelina opted for somewhere more discreet while visiting Thailand back in 2004 along with her son Maddox. Evidently she enjoyed her stay, as shown by her handwritten testimonial (click the button marked ‘testimonial’ to see it) and the couple of photos of her at the resort on the spa’s own site.

Sukantara is hardly a budget destination – a night’s stay can cost up to $350 US, but there are often big discounts – right now you can get a room at the Sukantara for under $200 a night through Agoda.

Angelina has impeccable taste when it comes to places to stay as she is also a fan of the FCC in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where she stayed while filming Tomb Raider around the Angkor temples. The FCC is probably my favourite hotel out of all of the places I’ve stayed anywhere.

Angelina is also no stranger to Thailand – she got one of her larger tattoos inked by Ajarn Noo, one of Thailand’s most revered tattooists. You can read more and see some pix at the end of this article about Bangkok’s Tattoo Temple.
