The English language gets mangled in so many ways in Bangkok to deeply entertaining effect. This road sign makes me smile every time I walk past it

I currently live on Sukhumvit Soi 21 in Bangkok, or Soi Asoke as it’s usually called. It’s one of Bangkok’s main roads and there is perpetual construction going on – there seems to be a skyscraper breaking ground every other week. The construction works tend to play havoc with the city pavements, which get ripped up or fenced off or covered in building materials. This road sign was erected to apologise for causing hassle for pedestrians, and thoughtfully translated in English too, but it came out a bit… wrong.

There is a whole gallery of Engrish signs I’ve spotted on my travels if you want to see more, and there is also the joy of Thailand Engrish Tshirt fun – you need to get one of these tees for yourself!
