Phuket may be Thailand’s most popular tourist destination, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still some secret beaches on the island where you can get away from the crowds
For many people, Phuket is Thailand – it’s the number one holiday spot in the country and has thousands of tourists there at any particular time of the year. Patong Beach is a perfect example of what happens when there’s too many people and too much development going on – a total mess of over crowding and over development, although you can have a Starbucks and be on the beach within 10 paces if you wish.
However, for all of Phuket’s popularity, there are still some beaches on the island that remain virtually undiscovered. Phuket Observer’s Phuket’s Secret Beaches feature gives the low down on the truly hidden gems, rather than the beaches like Laem Singh that once were off the beaten track but now are overcrowded with people looking for some space and surf to themselves. Once Kate Moss has visited somewhere, you know it’s not going to remain much of a secret anymore.
The five secret beaches that the Phuket Observer recommends are Haad Sai Gaew, Layan Beach, Haad Hin Gluai, Hua Beach and Nai Yair Beach, offering a full rundown on each. Visit their site for the complete info.
