After the Bangkok Airport closure last week, there are quite a few Bangkok hotel deals in an attempt to increase their occupancy over the Christmas period. There are some bargains to be had in the mid to high end range if you hunt around
Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has now resumed full operations, but the fallout of the airport closure for Thailand’s tourism industry has only just begun. There are going to be far less tourists arriving in Thailand than originally anticipated for the high season which runs from November to February. However, for hardy tourists there are some Bangkok hotel bargains to be had.
There won’t be much change of price amongst the budget end hotels in Khao San Road and that area – where the prices are being mainly cut are the mid range to high end hotels. Hunt around and you can find some steep discounts on hotels that have rave reviews from previous guests.
One three star hotel that is an absolute bargain now is the Astera Sathorn, which has rooms going for $US 27 – around 1000 Baht at current exchange rates – which is nearly half its normal price. That’s only slightly cheaper than Best Western Mayfair Suites which are 40 per cent off at $29.
The four star Bandara Suites in Silom is also nearly 50 per cent off with prices starting at $63. The Amari Watergate has slashed its price to nearly half price at $76 too, and if you fancy something a bit less corporate and a bit more designer, the highly regarded BKK Dream hotel in Sukhumvit is also currently $71 a night, a 50 dollar saving. Agoda has a list of around 30 Bangkok hotels offering special deals you can browse.
There are also several hotels in Phuket, Samui and Krabi offering discounts – the Sawadee Village in Phuket is a good choice if you are looking for some real peace and quiet in luxruious, tranquil surroundings and aren’t bothered about being near to the beach. Sawadee Village is nearly half price, although it’s still around $110 a night.
The only thing to watch out for if you’re booking over Christmas and New Year is that there is often a compulsory “gala dinner” or similar which adds a hefty charge to your bill – so check carefully when booking if that’s the case.
