Air Asia have long promised to start flying from Bangkok to Hong Kong, and with the launch of their new route this month they are giving away free flights on the BKK - HKG route to celebrate
It's one of the most popular flight routes in Asia but it's taken budget carrier Air Asia a long time to get permission to fly from Bangkok to Hong Kong. From 26 October 2008, Air Asia will be flying once daily between the two cities. Planes depart from Bangkok at 1630 and depart from Hong Kong at 2050.
To celebrate the launch of the new BKK - HKG route, the airline is giving away 5000 free seats on flights between 26 October 2008 and 28 March 2009 - but you need to book soon, by September 21st. You also will still need to pay all taxes, so it's not completely free - you'll pay around 1875 Baht (about $60 US) each way.
If you can't find the free flights, the usual price for a round trip fare from Bangkok to Hong Kong is about 1800 Hong Kong Dollars, or $230 US. That's actually around the same price for the Bangkok to Hong Kong route as offered by Emirates, who provide full inflight service. I've flown with Emirates several times on this route and found them to be very good. It's worth checking on Kayak.com to see if there are any other bargains, rather than assuming that the budget carrier will necessarily be the cheapest.
