Travelhappy headquarters ups and moves from Bangkok to the tiny island of Koh Tao in the Gulf Of Thailand
Just a note to say that I’ve moved from Bangkok to Koh Tao and will be living here for the next few months if all goes according to plan. I’ve lived on Koh Tao before in 2003 and 2004 while I was doing my PADI Divemaster and Scuba Instructor courses, and a lot of my friends from back then are still around. The island itself has changed quite a bit in my absence – unsurprisingly, given its ongoing transformation from a rough and ready former prison island only of interest to scuba divers into a burgeoning island destination to escape the crowds on Samui and Phangan.
Where the villages of Mae Haad and Sairee only had one road before, now they have several in parallel – and all along the coastline and back into the jungle there is the sound of construction as more resorts and private houses get built. I’ve written before about how Koh Tao is not just for scuba divers anymore and I’m looking forward to exploring the island a bit more and writing up some up to date info on things to do and places to go. I’d definitely recommend the Travelfish guide to Koh Tao at a mere $3.95 as the most comprehensive guide to the island.
At the moment there’s a storm hovering over the Gulf so I’ve not yet been in the water, but I am so looking forward to getting out to Chumphon Pinnacle in the next couple of days with my good friend Sharon, who I ran into this evening – Sharon is not some lithe dive chick but a hulking great Israeli guy… Over on Divehappy I wrote a quick guide to learning to dive on Koh Tao and the dive sites.
