If you’ve got the cash, you can skip the long ferry ride or taxi journey to two of Thailand’s most beautiful islands and get a ride on the new seaplane service from Destination Air
UPDATE: Destination Air have ceased operations. Currently you can only get to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta by ferry. See Krabi To Koh Lanta Speedboat Transfers and Phuket to Koh Lanta taxi information on AmazingLanta.com for details of booking a transfer to Koh Lanta.
From today’s Bangkok Post: “Destination Air, the country’s only seaplane shuttle service, will today launch its first flight from Phuket Airport to various destinations on the Andaman coast.
Its fleet of two Cessna seaplanes will fly 12 flights per day, leaving every two hours from Phuket to Phi Phi Island, Krabi and Ko Lanta.
The travel time to these destinations is: 13 minutes to Phi Phi, 20 minutes to Krabi and 30 minutes to Ko Lanta. The planes will land in the waterfront of major hotels and resorts.”
You can get more info at the Destination Air website, although at the moment it doesn’t state the prices for each flight, which is not particularly helpful. This is a service that could really take off (ho ho) as many people want to minimise the long travel times out to the islands – getting to my favourite island, Koh Lanta, is pretty laborious. Let’s hope it’s a success.
