If you're coming to Thailand in the next couple of weeks and fond of a tipple, best stock up on booze when you get here - for the next two weekends, no alchohol will be on sale
Thailand has a general election coming up on 23rd December, and the powers that be have decided that there will be no alcohol on sale on both the weekend of the election and the weekend before it. So booze will not be available from 14th December at 6pm until 16th December at midnight. Then the following weekend there will be no alcohol on sale from the 22nd December at 6pm until the 23rd December at midnight. Shops in Bangkok have already started putting up notices for customers, so it looks like this will be quite strictly enforced. It also looks like this ban will extend to all of Thailand, although who knows how well it will be policed on the islands.
