Thailand Tourist Visa Changes – 15 Days Only On Arrival Through Land Border

Thailand has just changed its tourist visa regulations. If you enter Thailand through a land border (i.e. come into Thailand by any means other than flying) then you will only get 15 days rather than 30 days on your visa stamp.

For those travellers looking to hop around several south east Asian countries crossing in and out of Thailand, the new visa rules could cause some problems. Whereas before every tourist got 30 days free on arrival, those not entering Thailand through airports will only get 15 days. Therefore if you have plans to cross from Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia or Burma into Thailand by land, best make sure you can leave the country again within 15 days, or get a visa in advance before you enter Thailand.

It’s not clear yet if it’s still permissible to stay 90 days within 180 days within Thailand i.e. to enter and exit the Kingdom six times on a 15 day visa, until it totals 90 days.

It’s worth following this thread on the Travelfish forum for further updates and if you need to ask for advice.
