Comments on: Kevin Kelly Interview: “A Jolt To The Soul” – The Making Of Asia Grace Backpacking and Travel in Thailand and Asia Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:46:28 +0000 hourly 1 By: P. Mazurski Thu, 10 Mar 2011 06:44:13 +0000 I never ceased to be amazed at the anti-Americanism, bordering on self-hatred, of even the smartest people. Is it this dimension of the mind that leads one to the Left-leaning bias or the other way round?

I too have traveled – and still do – and what I see in America each time I return (am an immigrant here myself) is simply a different culture, and a superior one at that. It’s a culture with an unprecedented in the history of mankind appreciation of the individual and his freedom. It’s a culture that empowers. Its memes are universally attractive. What other cultures – as colorful as they may be – can match that?

Yet, Mr. Kelly refers to Americans as arrogant…

When he says: “People were basically good; governments — including ours — were basically stupid.” Why “stupid” and not “bad”? – not only is that a more consistent sentence structure, it’s true: the government he saw were genuinely bad. But that’s only one degree of separation from the idea that Government is basically bad – but that would be a no-no for someone with the leftist bias.

And vis-a-vis what I said above, if “Most of everything in the world — people, smarts, ideas, resources — were not in the US.”, why was America so attractive at the time, and still is such a beacon to people all over the world. Indeed, why did the Democratic Technology happen here – I mean in its life-changing sense – and not elsewhere despite their zeros and compasses and powder?

Other than that – a great story.

and good luck to mr. kelly when he returns to any of those places, to be able to overlook the obvious, that tourism has been a disease that eradicated all that was beautiful where he had been before.
