Here’s some more great Asia-travel related webpages that have caught my eye recently – Engrish tattoos, Khao San Road going upmarket, Japan not expensive shocker and more

For the name alone, Buddha Drinks Fanta deserves a visit – a short and sweet food blog about travelling in Thailand and elsewhere. The title refers to the fact that, yes, you can often see bottles of Fanta left at spirit houses in Thailand as offerings to the otherworldly.

My recent post about Chinese Tattoos Gone Bad: Engrish In Reverse got a ton of visitors thanks to being mentioned on Gadling by Jamie Rhein. In the original article I forgot to include this link to a Japan Times article on the very same subject, which has some even funnier examples than the ones I came up with.

Speaking of which, Gadling also recently published this excellent mythbusting post: Japan is not expensive. When I visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima last October, I was quite taken aback at how Japan was distinctly less expensive than London, my home town for a couple of years before I left the UK.

Somewhere that is starting to cost more money is Thailand’s backpacker ghetto Khao San Road, the beginning of many South East Asian travel odysseys. This New York Times article explains the gentrification of Khao San as backpackers show they are quite happy to spend a couple more dollars if it means less cockroaches and more cafe latte.

The Khao San Road article was written by Newley Purnell, who is a US journalist based in Bangkok and has his own excellent blog about living in the Big Mango.

A very simple and very cleverly done blog is Bangkok Taxi, a series of photos of Bangkok life taken from the back of Bangkok cabs.

Foreigners are hot! says Go Budget Travel, a great travel blog, with lots of good advice and nice clean design. This particular post is about how by just being a travelling foreigner, you can have a certain sensual kudos and thus charm people into helping you that much more easily if you realise your own inner hotness. Hmm. Or get arrested…
