Green Tea Kit Kat – It’s Just Wrong

KitKat is a national chocolate treasure in the UK – but in Japan, the brown-fingered joygiver has been altered with some truly alarming flavours

Recently my friend Wen visited Japan. She came back with Kit Kat chocolate as a present for me (thanks Wen!) – but I’m not sure what I make of these flavours. Green Tea Kit Kat? Sesame Kit Kat? They bear little resemblance to the Kit Kat I know and love from my childhood growing up in the UK.

And when you unwrap it, it gets worse. Chocolate coloured a delicate shade of vomit. It’s just wrong.

I idly did a search to find out more about this Japanese cultural chocolate hijacking and found this mildly terrifying story on Weird News Asia that showcases literally dozens of exotic Japanese Kit Kat flavours that make limited edition appearances and then disappear again. The thought of Grilled Corn Kit Kat makes me want to weep.

The Japanese are not quite there with memorable chocolate names like the Koreans but at least have avoided the unfortunate double-entendres of Thai advertising.

McDonalds is also not immune to the Japanification of Western junk food icons, although they do manage to invent some culinary items that will, I suspect, not catch on elsewhere, like ready-to-eat snack packs of tentacles.

saw some imported shopping online website selling it and it a bit pricey..
I think it’s kinda like “limited edition” stuff…

If its not that sweet, I think I’ll like it. Once, I tried to make cheesecake with green tea kit kat sent from Tokyo, but it failed :-) My fav still dark choco flavor, its the best!! BTW, have you try the wasabi flavor? :-)

  3. double OK says:

@Adri :: Have you every try Tokyo Banana yet? a bit sweet but yummy! =D

  4. Adri says:

@double OK – Not yet, will try. But first I should find out who will go to Tokyo soon :-)

green tea kitkat is great.. and FYI you shouldn’t expect it to be brown.. duh! it is made of White Chocolate and green tea, not cocoa, milk, and butterfat.
