John Chow is a successful internet entrepeneur. He’s also keen on eating some of the most full on Asian food he can find, which he documents on his blog
One of the blogs I read regularly is JohnChow.com. John is a self-professed “dot com mogul” who runs the TTZ Media network of tech websites and has become very wealthy due to his savvy with money. John’s blog is a mix of practical insights into good ways to make (and keep) money online, personal observations about the tech industry and bragging about his latest car/ house/ big box of freebies. John’s writing style is pleasingly concise, but best of all, while he likes to talk about his success – and share it – he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
What does any of this have to do with travel? Not a lot, except that John is also Canadian Chinese (as far as I can work out). This means he has a fondness for Asian food that goes beyond most Western palettes. He’s made a couple of great posts recently about his own favourite Asian dishes. One is about eating Pho – the ubiquitious meal-in-itself soup you find everywhere in South East Asia – that comes complete with photos.
Sample quote:
“A long time ago, I was told that Pho means you’ll get a delicious wholesome meal in a bowl at a reason price. I would have to agree with that assessment. Pho is the perfect comfort food. Now a first timer may have trouble believing that when they see some of the meats the can go into a bowl of Pho. However, if he or she sticks with the “safe” ingredients, there shouldn’t be any vomiting.”
Another post is The Fear Factor Lunch, again with pictures:
“Richmond has some really authentic Hong Kong style restaurants and #9 Restaurant is as close to the real Hong Kong as you can get. In many ways, the restaurant is better than what is available in Hong Kong. For those who has never dined at #9, the food may look like something you see in the reality TV show, Fear Factor.”
You get the general idea. As far as I can work out, John has travelled quite a lot in China – he proposed to his girlfriend at the top of Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower – but he hasn’t really written much on his blog to date about his experiences. I’m hoping he might get round to that at some point.
You can review John’s blog yourself to get a linkback from him too.
