One of the things I love about travelling is that you are forever discovering new places to travel. My memory is so bad that I have to keep lists of everything, and so I have a list of places I want to visit - and that list keeps getting longer and longer with each place I do manage to get to, because it sets off so many stories and ideas for other places to see.
I always find it interesting to hear about where people want to go, so I thought it would be fun to share my list of where I want to go and ask other travel bloggers to do the same on their blog - or leave a comment on this page, whatever's best.
To keep it short and sweet, I've kept it to a Top 5 list, and tried to explain a bit about why I want to go where I want to go, rather than just listing countries. There's usually always a specific attraction within a country that first captures a traveller's imagination so it's good to hear about these places. This is a dream list, where money is no object, so let your imagination go wild!
1) Easter Island
The remoteness of Easter Island, thousands of miles from anywhere in the ocean, and the mystery of the giant Moai stone statues that look out to sea from its shores, has fascinated me since I was a kid. I wonder if it would be a massive anticlimax to actually go there after it's filled such a place in my imagination - or just reinforce the sense of wonder.
2) Truk Lagoon, Chuuk
The remote Truk Lagoon is within the Kingdom of Chuuk in Micronesia - it's the last resting place of the World War II Japanese warship fleet after being bombed in port, and it's widely regarded as the best shipwreck scuba diving site in the world.
3) Lijiang, China
Having seen this on the Discovery Channel, I want to go to Lijiang before it becomes wholly overrun by tourists. It may already be too late, but this ancient city's architecture looks stunning and I'd wander amongst it for myself and try and understand a bit more about China's history.
4) Okinawa Aquarium and Yonaguni Pyramid, Japan
Okinawa has the second biggest aquarium in the world, which contains not one but three whale sharks along with manta rays and hundreds of other big creatures from the ocean. It is an audacious feat of engineering and education too, and I would love to see it. Helpfully, Okinawa is on the way to Yonaguni, which is the furthest island away from Japan to the west. Remote and rugged, Yonaguni also has a mysterious underwater pyramid (more like a ziggurat, actually) which has baffled scientists as to whether it's natural or manmade. There is also meant to be regular encounters with hammerhead sharks here too. I love the idea of going somewhere in Japan that's quite at odds with my idea of it being hypermodern and technological.
5) Bhutan
- all of it! I have to confess I am quite ignorant about Bhutan, but I know I've seen enough pictures of its amazing temples and mountains that I would love to spend some time there.
So, that's mine - where do you want to travel next?

Seeing as no one else has replied, I thought I’d take the opportunity to express my most anticipated holidays…
1) Tanzania, Africa - The combination of The Serengeti and the dominant Mount Kilimanjaro seems like too much to turn down. Also an abundance of wildlife here, which could make for an amazing safari!
2) New Zealand - all of it! =]
[I've been to New Zealand many times as a child, seeing as my whole family live there. But as a child you cannot always experience the things that may interest you when your older] and for being one who is quickly developing a very adventurous side of me, the cure to this? New Zealand. From mountain climbing, bungee jumping, white water rafting, skiing and just about anything else you can think of, New Zealand is the adventure tourist’s utopia!
3) Thailand - The culture difference, something about South East Asia has always made me want to explore the region and interact with the people who call it home. Being very affordable and offering plenty of cultural experiences to foreigners, definitely a place I want to visit.
(Plus the fact that there is premium diving there, another of my interest - inspired greatly by an Australian attraction - the Great Barrier Reef.)
4) Papua New Guinea - again for many of the same reasons as Thailand, and one long, historic trek - Kokoda Trail.
and finally…
5) Antarctica - The forgotten continent. Although logistically difficult to organize a trip to this part of the world, the beauty of the continent and the diverse wildlife looks spectacular. A place I definitely look forward to visiting at some stage!
