About Hanoi

Founded in the 11th century, Vietnam’s capital has a rich history of French and Chinese influence, blended with indigenous culture. Beautiful lakes, interesting architecture, and excellent food make Hanoi a unique and increasingly modern city.

Most points of interest are located in and around the atmospheric Old Quarter, the West Lake – where many luxury hotels are – and the historic Ba Dinh political district. See our Hanoi Quick Guide for details.

Where To Stay In Hanoi

Hanoi has plenty of places to stay for every budget. The historic Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi dates back to 1901. Hanoi La Siesta Hotel and Spa sits in the middle price bracket. Blue Hanoi Inn Hotel is a good budget option.

Things To Do In Hanoi

A big part of the pleasure of Hanoi is watching the busy world go by in the atmospheric Old Quarter. It’s also a great city for eating out.

All the same, there are plenty of attractions, including the ancient Temple of Literature & National University, the mausoleum of the revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh, as well as the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace.

There are also interesting museums, including the National Museum, the Women’s Museum, and the Fine Arts Museum.

See our Hanoi Quick Guide for a rundown of things to do.
