From February 1st, the international departure tax from Thailand’s airports has increased to 700 Baht – make sure you’ve got some spare cash when it’s time to leave the country.
UPDATE: From February 2007 the Airport Tax is already included in your flight ticket, regardless of which airline you are flying with. There is no need to keep 700 Baht to pay the tax at the airport – it has already been included in your flight cost. You might want to keep the 700 Baht handy for some overpriced drinks and food, however.
The Airports of Thailand authority increased international departure tax to 700 Thai Baht for international departures on February 1st, an increase of 200 Baht on the old tax of 500 Thai Baht.
The departure tax for domestic flights within Thailand has also increased from February 1st, doubling from 50 Baht to 100 Baht.
It’s important to remember to keep this money handy at the end of your holiday to pay the tax, as only cash is accepted at the departure tax payment booths.
It’s been mentioned in local newspapers that the departure tax will soon be included within your flight price, meaning you won’t have to pay it separately as it the case now. However, no definite news about when this will happen has been forthcoming yet.
