The BKK Bagel Bakery quietly opened this week ahead of their official launch date on March 1st 2011 and it’s official -they do indeed have some cracking bagels. Despite being one of the culinary capitals of the world, getting decent bread in Bangkok is still hard work. The BKK Bagel Bakery has figured out how to make bagels that taste just like they come from the Big Apple. Apparently the true New York way of making bagels is to boil the dough – sounds weird, but it gives the bagel a distinctive texture all of its own.
When I visited it was just a couple of days after they had opened their doors and they were still gearing up for their official grand opening on March 1st and currently there’s several different types of bagel on offer – original, sesame, poppy seed etc – and cream cheese, along with a couple of other toppings to put on the bagel. From the Grand Opening on March 1st they will be launching a range of deli foods to go on the bagels, including my favourite, pastrami. I’ll definitely be going back to try that out. The BKK Bagel Bakery also serves the usual array of coffees – the cappuccino was pretty good.
BKK Bagel Bakery is located on the ground floor of the Maniya Centre, looking out onto the car park. It’s right by the Chitlom BTS Skytrain exit. You can see a map on the official BKK Bagel Bakery Facebook page.
