Getting From Bangkok Airport to Your Hotel

Bangkok has two airports, both of which are located a significant distance from the city. There are several options for travelling into Bangkok from the airport, ranging from limousine services to public taxis and the Airport Rail Link.

Suvarnabhumi Airport

  • Suvarnabhumi Airport is the newer and larger of Bangkok’s two airports. Open since 2006, it’s the main airport for Bangkok and handles the vast majority of long haul international flights and some domestic flights. The airport code for Suvarnabhumi is BKK.
  • Several transport options are available from Suvarnabhumi. The easiest way to get into the city is to arrange for your hotel to pick you up from the airport. Most hotels offer an airport transfer service, typically priced between 1,500 and 6,000 baht depending on the type of vehicle.
  • A limousine service provided by Airports of Thailand (AOT) is available from the airport, with a selection of vehicles starting from 1,000 baht. The cost of the AOT limousine service can vary based on the type of vehicle you select and your hotel’s location within the city.
  • Vehicles currently offered by AOT include a fleet of Toyota Camrys, which can set four people with luggage, eight-person commuter vans and premium Mercedes E-Class and BMW 7 Series sedans, priced at 1,600 baht and 2,300 baht, respectively, as of November 2015.
  • Finally, private car application Uber offers transportation between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Bangkok for a 1,000 baht fixed fare.

Public Taxis
  • Public metered taxis are available from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The cost of travelling from the airport to Bangkok ranges from 250 to 400+ baht depending on your hotel’s location. You will need to pay highway tolls (typically 50 to 150 baht in total) in addition to the taxi fare.
  • Some taxis may offer to take you into Bangkok for a fixed price from the airport. The prices offered are always significantly higher than the meter fare. The public taxi stand on Level 1, located close to doors four and seven, offers metered public taxis.
  • Note that there is a 50 baht surcharge for taxis boarded from the public taxi stand.
Airport Rail Link (ARL)

  • If your hotel is located close to a BTS Skytrain station, the Airport Rail Link (ARL) is a quick and convenient way to get into Bangkok. The City Line, currently the only operational service, travels from Suvarnabhumi Airport and Phayathai Station in 30 minutes, making six stops on the way.
  • Tickets from the airport to Phayathai Station cost 45 baht. The Express Line, which is currently suspended due to an upgrade to rolling stock, is priced at 150 baht and terminates at Makkasan Station.
  • The Airport Rail Link is connected with the BTS Skytrain and MRT. Phayathai Station connects with BTS Phaya Thai, making it easy to transfer from the Airport Link to the Sukhumvit Line and travel to your hotel. BTS tickets are sold separately from tickets for the Airport Rail Link.
  • Makkasan Station is connected by bridge to MRT Petchaburi. Note that the BTS and MRT can become quite crowded during rush hour, making it easier to travel to your hotel by taxi if you arrive in the early morning or from 5pm to 7pm in the evening.
  • Although the ARL is a convenient option if your hotel is located close to a BTS station, it tends to be easier to travel into Bangkok by taxi. If your hotel is located far from the BTS or MRT, you will need to take a taxi from Makkasan or Phaya Thai station.

Don Muang Airport

  • Don Muang Airport (DMK) is Bangkok’s second airport. Previously the city’s main air terminal, it now serves as a secondary airport and handles most low-cost carriers, some domestic airlines and a limited number of long haul international flights.
  • Unlike Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Muang Airport is not connected to Bangkok by an elevated railway. You’ll need to either arrange transportation with your hotel or take a limousine or taxi into the city from the airport.
  • Airports of Thailand offers a limousine service from Don Muang Airport into Bangkok. Prices start from 1,050 baht for a Toyota Camry, which seats up to four people with luggage. Uber is also available from Don Muang Airport at a fixed rate of 1,000 baht per trip.

Public Taxis
  • The cheapest way to travel from Don Muang Airport to Bangkok is by taxi. Public taxis can be found at the taxi stand at the end of the arrivals hall. Most trips into the city cost between 150 and 350 baht, depending on traffic conditions.
  • Note that there is a 50 baht surcharge for using the public taxi stand at Don Muang Airport. If your destination requires the use of the expressway, you will need to pay all tolls (typically 50 to 150 baht, depending on your hotel’s location).
